The Pear Tree in Alden
Your first stop is a few minute drive or walk to The Pear Tree Gallery and Boutique on Coy Street in Alden to check out the work of artist Jan Schilling. She specializes in watercolors and limited edition prints. You will also find stoneware pottery, handmade jewelry, woodwork, Petoskey stone knives and designer clothing. It’s open seasonally from May to October, but you can check out the gallery year round at www.thepeartreealden.com.
Twisted Fish Gallery in Elk Rapids
If you love custom art pieces you’ll love your next stop at the Twisted Fish Gallery in Elk Rapids after a scenic half hour drive. They feature many area artists, including Charles Murphy, Anni Crouter, Angelis Jackowski, and Thomas LeGault in their gallery and online at http://www.twistedfishgallery.com. You will have quite the selection to take in from paintings, sculptures and jewelry to glass work, pottery, metal and wood creations and handcrafted kaleidoscopes.
Blue Heron Gallery in Elk Rapids
After you take in the Twisted Fish Gallery, stop over at the Blue Heron Gallery also in Elk Rapids to see art by artists throughout Michigan. You will see pieces in so many forms, from stoneware porcelain, blown glass, wood creation oils, pottery, clay tiles, photography, mixed media, quilting, textile art and more.
Jordan River Arts Council
Next, we’re going to the Jordan River Arts Council Center to check out their featured exhibits that change each month and even build our art skills with their workshops. Artists featured include Babs Young, Cynthia and Ron Tschudy, Jacky Trimble, John G. Stevens, Karen Bake Thumm, Karen Walker, Sylvia Walworth and Yvonne Schimdt. Alden Depot Arts Festival
The Alden Depot Arts Festival is held at the end of summer every year in the Alden Depot Park – right along Torch Lake! Artists apply to be part of the festival beforehand and each have a booth that features their best crafts and fine art. Annual Holiday Gift Fair in Bellaire
The Annual Holiday Gift Fair is a great indoor art stroll that happens every year on the first Saturday in November at the Bellaire High School – less than 10 minutes from Torch Lake! Over 40 local artists bring their most unique pieces of artwork from handmade soap and candles, to jewelry and painted pictures to maple syrup and custom furniture.
